Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I am being taken to small claims court by my ex-boyfriend. I make very little money. I'm staying with friends to try & save up money to get my own place so I can have visitation with my children (1of which is child w/ex-boyfriend). Someone told me I can file as Indigent & ex-boyfriend would not be able to sue me. Is this true? If so, how do I do this? Also, if I do this is it going to hurt my visitation.

He's suing for approx. $6,000.00. I make less than $500.00/month. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It is not true. All this will accomplish is you may not be required to pay filing fees to file an answer. You will need to appear on the date indicated on the summons, or a default judgment may be entered against you. The individual suing you has the burden to prove you owe him money. You may respond with any defenses you may have.
