Almost all unearned income�like unemployment, disability, or retirement benefits�is exempt. If your only income is Social Security, Unemployment, Worker�s Comp, Public Aid, or a pension, you�re a legal turnip. A creditor can�t touch those benefits, and a judge can�t order you pay out of them.
