Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My wife has medical bills from before our marriage turned into a collection agency. She has been unemployed for the past two years. the lady from the collection agency threatened to run my credit and make me pay for her bills. If they run my credit is there any recourse I can take against the collection agency. I have not made any payments for her nor agreed to pay it for her.

Your wife's pre-marital debt is not yiour responsibility. If they do anything to yiour credit they have violated the law and can be sued. Send the creditor a certified letter stating yiu lack of liability and warn them of suit for harassment.
