Scandalous Girls

I was invited over by an ex girlfriend to her and her roommates house late one night. The door was locked so I went to open a window on the screened in porch because the ex sleeps on a couch directly in front of it. I pulled on the screen a little bit and the bottom section bent and the roommate came out screaming for me to leave. We agreed later that I would pay for the window replacement. The replacement itself costs $43 but she asked for $100 for time lost from work to take it in. I then told her that I would only be dropping off $50 and that was my final offer. She's now telling me to give her $200 because I'm playing ''mind games'' and that if I dont pay the money she's going to pursue criminal charges for trespass, breaking and entering, vandalism, and criminal damage. I have talked to a few people and they tell me to just stick with the $43 and leave it at that. Does she have a case against me if this were to go to court?

Its difficult to say whether the State's Attorney would really charge you based on these facts. I am a bit unclear as to why you did not just knock on the door rather than trying to sneak in the window, but that part of the story strikes me as the most likely to cause problems.

I do not see why paying her the money is really going to stop her from filing charges anyway, but the whole story seems a bit off to me. Keep in mind that an attorney will cost more than a thousand dollars and perhaps try to speak to someone near you before doing anything.

You are getting bad advice. The "ex" could certainly have you charged with criminal activity and then you would need to hire an attorney to defend yourself. It will be much cheaper to pay her what she wants and avoid such situations in the future.
