Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Do I really need an attorney?

Hello,

I wanted to know if it is possible to do your own divorce without a lawyer, but you DO have children AND property involved? I'm just on the deed, and not the loan. I'm a stay at home Mom and am seeking child support, my vehicle, and temporary maintenence. I DON'T want the house. I know that having a lawyer would be wise, but is it possible to have it done without getting totally screwed without a lawyer's representation? Thanks.

Are you expecting to get partially screwed? You asked if you could represent yourself without getting totally screwed. Hire a lawyer. If you would like to discuss your case further, please call me.

Well, I think the question for you is do you know how to get a court to order child support, get your vehicle, and get maintenance paid to you? And what if your husband/ex doesn't pay...do you know how to force a court to make him pay?

If you answer yes to those questions then absolutely you can get it done yourself. If the answer is no, I'd suggest you find a good family law attorney who can get those things accomplished for you.

you are allowed to represent yourself, however you can't sue yourself for malpractice.
