Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I am a father in Illinois with custody of my kids half of the time. I live in the same town as my ex-wife, but they bus to her house every day after school. On the days that I have the kids, I'd like the kids to get settled at my house as early as possible. There are days when I have to work a little late, and I would like my new wife to pick the kids up and bring them over to my house (4 miles away) so that they can get settled for the evening with regards to dinner and homework.

My ex-wife has decided to work less so she can be with the kids after school. She is adamant about not allowing my ex-wife to pick the kids up and has hired a lawyer

stating that I can get the kids once I am available after work. Can you help me out?

What does the parenting agreement say. That is your starting point. It probably has a mediation clause. Try that first
