Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

full time student healh insurance coverage

I am a divorced mother of two full time college students, both over 18. Is my ex-husband compelled to keep the children on his health insurance policy under this status?

Re: full time student healh insurance coverage

Hello and Happy New Year. Since your

children are over 18, it will depend

upon what your divorce judgment specifies. However, the general rule

is that when one turns 18 they are

emancipated and all support thereafter is good will. It is common

to see divorce judgments which require parents to contribute to the college education of their children based upon their economic ability to pay, but I have not seen language pertaining to health insurance coverage. Will be happy to discuss this with you further and in more detail.
