If we, the grandparents of a minor child, 9, have temporary guardianship with our son having sole custody and the mother having no visitation rights, in the event of something happening to the father, would we retain custody of our grandchild?

You would continue to be the guardian, but she can fight to regain custody easier than when the father was alive.
