Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Can I get guardianship of my sister if my mom is negligent?

Mother has history of committing fraud, lying and stealing. Has given her 14 year old daughter strong sleeping medications. My sister doesn't want to live with her and is afraid. Her father has passed away and I am her older brother. She is currently staying with me and I am trying to obtain guardianship until our mother gets treatment. How can I do this?

If you are over 18 you can go to the local courthouse and file a Petition for Guardianship of a Minor. Someone there should be able to help you with the proper wording or you can contact legal aid in your area.
