Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Past Due Child Support

I am inquiring for my husband who is paying back child support. Is there any chance that a lawyer can help with fighting to reduce or eliminate back due child support for the child who is age 21, lives with us, legally changed his name to reflect his so-called "stepdad" (no he was never adopted) when he was 16 and the mother has never been a recipent of public assistance?

Re: Past Due Child Support

Father owes child support until his child who resides with his mother as primary physical custodian reaches 18. If he lived with you for protracted periods during that time child support is eligible to be reduced for those periods. One must return to court to accomplish this.

Otherwise back child support is a negotiable matter between father and mother, and the offering of a lump sum in cash of perhaps 50% of the back obligation can sometimes buy one out of the problem.
