Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Is Step-parent adoptee entitled to biological parent's inheritance.

My paternal half brother was adopted by his

step-parent when his mom remarried. My dad did not see him for 30

years. My dad just died. Is my brother legally entitled to his natural

father's inheritance (there is no will) when adopted by a stepparent. Adoption was in IL in

the 1970s.

Hello. the issue here is whether there was a

relationship between your dad and half-brother.

You reveal that dad had no seen your half brother

in 30 years. That fact coupled with the adoption

is enough to bar your half brother from inher-iting from your dad, in my opinion. This is a good question. The legal term that describes the

extent to which a relationship exist between relatives in determining who gets what, if anything at the death of one of the relatives, is (dependency). This is quite a topic and

there is not enough time here to go into it, but

I will be happy to discuss this with you further.
