Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

An U.S. based insurance company is threatening to sue me for property damages worth $250,000.00. If I do not appear in court on the summons date, will I be found guilty of a criminal charge?

No, but you do risk having a judgment entered against you for the amount of damages they are seeking.

If you have been properly served the summons and complaint and you do not appear in court, the court may enter a default judgment against you. If a default is entered, then the plaintiff can move to0 execute on the judgment which means going after any resources you may have including income.

Without more information, I can't comment on whether there are criminal penalties associated with your situation. I would recommend that you seek counsel to help you.

Based on the information provided, that particular court ruling on only that case will not assess a criminal charge against you.
