Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

i borrowed a business associate 1000 dollars to be paid back in 1 week to help him out. i had him sign a piece of paper i wrote up saying he will pay back in a week, dated and signed by him with his drivers license #. i made this loan to him because he offered to help my business (vending) in a big way by giving me a bunch of bill acceptors to upgrade my older machines. of course none has come true. he has given me the run around for awhile. what course of action do i have? thanks

You can sue, but because of the amount involved using a lawyer would cost you more than the amount at issue. You might try small claims court.

I agree. Small claims court is the way to go. It's a relatively easy process geared toward non-lawyers. You can go online to your county clerk's office and get information (and possibly the forms).
