Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Process serving procedures

I recently received papers for a filing that happened over a year ago. The papers however, were taped to my front door and not hand delivered to me. Should I respond to the aligations? I was told by a friend that if the papers were filed that I have been served that I should also receive a copy in the mail, is this true? Please advise on what my next steps should be.

Thanks

Re: Process serving procedures

You should show the papers to a lawyer in your community. While it may be true that you should have received a copy in the mail, there are cases where that is not always required, and what if the plaintiff says he sent you a copy in the mail, even if you didn't receive it. A lawyer will help you protect your interests and tell you the risks of doing nothing. Call me if you wish. Larry Stein (630) 221-1755.
