Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Worried in Chicago

I dated a guy for 3 years and we recently broke up. While we were together he needed a car and I decided to help him finance one. His credit was not good so I signed for the loan from a dealership myself, so the car is only in my name. For the past year while we were together he was making the payments. For the past 2 months now he refuses to make the payments and told me he doesn't want the car anymore and for me to take it. I found out the car has been sitting in a parking garage with over $500 in charges since November. I don't have the money to get the car out of the garage or to make any of the payments on my own. I'd like to try and sell the car through a private party or to carmax, however I can't pay to get it out of the parking garage. What can I do to get the car out of there so I can try and sell it asap?

Re: Worried in Chicago

Is the car worth more that you owe on it? If so, perhaps you can negotiate with the garage.

I do not know of any legal recourse that you have against the garage, although, you might have a claim against your ex.
