Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

Is possession really 9/10 of the law??? Here's my question: I have helped build a friend's construction business. I also purchased and maintain (via godaddy) the domain name used by the company for it's website and also it's operating name. My friend is now giving me the bum's rush and basically doesn't want to pay me for sales commissions on jobs I've sold for him and his company. Since I own the domain name (also the name of his business), can I Re-direct it away from his website without fear of doing something illegal? In short, I am in possession of what I have already purchased through godaddy.

Thanks

Any IP or franchise attorney will tell you it depends on the agreement between you and your friend. Do you have a written contract? It's not possible to provide useful advice without seeing all agreements as well as the surrounding facts and circumstances. Consult with a good IP or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
