Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Laid off from a non-union job last Feb. 2009. I called the HR person a couple of weeks ago to check my status for being called back. Work there has picked up and thought I would be called. She told me they filled the position with someone who actually hired in while I was still working. So I have more senority and was told I was doing a good job for them. Basically told I should pursue other work. I know they shuffled a lot of people around during the layoff. Using people to do different jobs to get buy till things picked up. I can understand that, but I'm wondering if I have any rights here? I'm 60 years old, a veteran, and had back surgery due to a work related incident around three years ago at this workplace. I feel like it's a combination of things and the reason for not calling me back.
