Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

Can someone with a record practice as a chiropractor, or an attorney? I am 35 years of age and I am returning to school for three years. I was concerned about being denied a license in a health related field or by the bar association because of things in the past...DUI....also non violent felony, both over 17 years ago. I have a friend who recently could not renew her nursing license because of a domestic violence charge. This just has me a little concerned about my plans of career change.
