Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Copying unopened mail

Hello,

In a situation where you need to prove in court that a person is living at a residence, is it legal to make a copy of their unopended mail? (If the judge sees their name and address it is harder to deny that they live there.) Say it is a 2 flat. There is one door then a hallway with a table where all mail is held for both floors. Is it legal to take that person's mail into your apartment for a couple minutes, make a copy of it with a scanner, and place it right back out into the hallway? Is it legal to take a picture of that mail in the hallway? Does it make a difference if you are the co-owner of the building? What if the name on the mail is not somebody reported to be on the lease and you never heard of them? There are way too many people living there disturbing the peace.
