Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

Move renters stuff out legally

We have a rental property in Deerfield, IL, Lake County. Our renter requested to be released from her lease as she cannot pay her rent. She already missed Mays rent. We agreed to release her and had her sign an agreement that she will move out by June 1st. In the agreement, it also stated that we can move her stuff into the garage if she is not out by the 1st to get it ready for prospective renters. The agreement also stated that we can get rid of her stuff from the garage if still there after 10 days. Since she signed the agreement, we can legally do this, correct? Also, can we change the locks tomorrow, June 1st?

Re: Move renters stuff out legally

depends on the exact wording of the agreement. Generally you cannot remove someone unless you proceed under the forcible entry and detainer act.

Penalties can be very expensive
