Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I live in a HUD Elderly and/or Disabled Apt. Building. I have had my cat with me for years and being elderly and disabled, after working very hard, I finally got my $300.00 deposit back. My Daughter has an apt. here also, she has MS and a cat. She had no problem with Housing when she moved in. Our problem is that she has 2 more cats that are elderly and cannot find homes for and she and I would love to have them with us again. See, My Daughter and I shared a home and many cats. CLEAN! (had to add that). We found homes for the rest. We really would love to have our babies with us. Will HUD, or can HUD stop us from having them? I hope I asked this correctly. Thank you for any help and My God Bless, Betty

Yes they can if it violates the rules and are applicable to all residents of your complex. Typically the only exception to a rule that restricts pets that I am aware of is if the animal is a "service animal" - meaning it provides someone who is disabled with a service -- but the animal must be TRAINED -- like a seeing eye dog for the blind.
