Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

mold in our apartment

We have lived in our basement apartment for almost a year and have flooded 5 times. The previous landlord didn't fix the problem or even try to find the problem. We now have a new landlord who found there were many cracks in the wall and has fixed them but we keep getting black mold growing up some of the walls. and our carpet hasn't been replaced. My son and I have been getting sick almost constantly and I think it may have to do with the mold. Is there anything we can do? We can't afford to move.

Re: mold in our apartment

While I may not provide you with legal advice because you are not yet my client, generally speaking you may want to contact the city/village building inspector to get help, or ask if they have a landlord/tennant ordinance that gives you some rights. You may not be able to afford NOT to move given health issues of staying.
