Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

Slander and defamation of character

I am a 30 year old married female public school teacher in IL. My principal recently resigned and moved to a new school district. My principal was also my mentor as I am also completing an internship for a IL type 75 administrative certificate. A secretary in my district (and also a parent of students in the school I teach at) is telling parents of students in my school that I (usign my name) was sleeping with him and he had to quit. She is also claiming that I am the reason he and his wife divorced. I am a happily married woman and the accusations are completely false and unfounded. Rumors are flying and it is difficult to deal with. Is there anything I can do? I am afraid that her accusations will prevent me from achieveing a higher position within the district knowing full well that what she is claiming is completely untrue.

Re: Slander and defamation of character

Get a lawyer and go after her for slander. You may be able to get a temporary restraining order against the woman, assuming you're willing to pay for it.
