Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois

My wife had a 2004 chevy cavalier. Bought it off the lot with very low miles. We paid it off in 2008. During the years, there was no serious maintenance was ever done on the car except your normal oil engine changes and stuff like that. Yesterday morning, my wife started off to work and she got 3 miles down the road and she started to smell wires burning. She turned off the radio and turned off the heat. She then seen a red glow between the radio and the heater knobs. She pulled over and got out of the car. She took maybe 20 steps and her whole interior was full of smoke. She then started walking further away from the car and in a matter of minutes, her car was in flames. Is there any compensation we could get from the dealership or GM itself for poor factory wiring. Nothing was never touched in that car. Everything was stock.

You need to read your warranty to determine whether it is still in effect and provides coverage. Additionally, there can be many causes for the fire. An animal could have cause a short, a stone or road debris, etc. You will need to prove that there was a factory defect. Look at the national database and see if there have been similar complaints. Absent similar complaints,

I think you will have a difficult time on this one. However, send a letter to GM and see if they will do anything. Good luck.
