Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

5 Day Notice for Non-Payment of Rent

I gave my landlord a written explanation, per his request, on why I was withholding this month's rent. That was done on the 1st -- on the 20th he put a 5 Day Eviction Notice under my door but wants rent during the ''pendency'' of this eviction. Would giving him rent after the notice void the eviction process? What is his next step?

Re: 5 Day Notice for Non-Payment of Rent

Firstly, I need to know why you withheld rent. If it was for legitimate reasons, then you may still be entitled to your 30 day notice. If it was not legitimate, then you will not be able to stall as an eviction can be started for non-payment of rent
