Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

paying a utility bill

13 years ago I rented a duplex in Ohio. A few weeks ago I got a letter from a collection agency claiming that I owe $200.00 for a utlity bill that they claim ran a month behind.

Can they legally collect on a bill from 13 years ago in another state?

Re: paying a utility bill

The answer to your question depends on the statute of limitation that exists in Ohio. In Illinois, the statute is 5 years. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help.
