Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Breaking lease

the lease for my downtown chicago apartment will terminate in 08/2005. i've experienced disturbing noises in my apartment that the management office can not fix. they said they would terminate our lease agreement if we can vacate the apartment in 30 days since they can't fix the problem. i personally don't think 30 days is enough time to find either another apartment or purchase a condo. can i ask them for my time to terminate my lease, perhaps 3-4 months at most? can i be re-imbursed for pain and suffering for the 4 months we lived with the noises? as a tenant, what are my rights and what am i entitled to?

Re: Breaking lease

Let me say this: your landlord is being generous, especially at this time of year. And I believe a motiviated person can find alternative housing in 30 days. Good Luck!
