Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Incompetent real estate attorney

My real estate attorney was not only unhelpful at the closing (I had to catch the 3-4 math errors in calculations), but now it seems that she did not catch 2 unusual (tax and pro-ration) clauses in the developers sales contract which has cost me $768+. I have spoken to her and she agreed that it should have been caught, but when I suggested that she share in the cost of the error, or at very least refund the $450 that I paid her to avoid this type of cost, she will not return my phone calls or respond. Note that the attorneys for the other buyers in my building caught these clauses, so I have no help in trying to get the developer to make this right. What can I do without incurring additional cost to myself? Can I report her to any law associations? I think she should have to answer for this.

Re: Incompetent real estate attorney

You can certainly report her to the ARDC; but a better option might be to have her report the incident to her malpractice carrier. Do this in writing, via certified mail, RRR.
