Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

How do I get out of a lease for an apartment that I am not living in?

My boyfriend I planned to move in together after a long relationship. We moved into an apartment complex and we both signed a one year standard lease. He himself has been paying the rent since we have moved in and continues to pay it now. I moved out a week ago and I will not be moving back in. How do I go about getting my name off the lease since I am no longer living there? I do not want to be held responsible if he decides to skip a month because we are no longer affiliated with one another...Please help.

Unless the Landlord will let you off the hook, you are stuck. This is one of the drawbacks of shacking up.

Hello. In my opinion, you

should write the landlord

and ask him if her or she

would be agreeable to your

name being deleted from the

lease. If this does not work,

you will probably have to

accept the fact that if your

ex-boyfriend doesn't pay the

rent, you and he could be

sued!!
