Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Prorated Rent

I have been renting an apartment from this company for five months now. My lease began on August 15th 2007 and ends May 9, 2008. I asked if they do proration of rent and they informed me that they did not. I guess my question is, why should i have to pay rent for almost a month that i won't be living there. My lease is for 10 months, but i really only stay there for nine, they make me leave at 4:00 on May 9th. Is there anything that I can do to get some of the money that they are ripping me off for back. I go to school in a college town and all the reality companies are conducting business the same way.

Re: Prorated Rent

I would have to see your lease agreement. But perhaps the OBRE (IL Office of Banks & Real Estate) would be interested in this practice. It sounds highly unethical. Their web address is obre.state.il.us. Good luck!
