Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Townhome/condo association rules

Can a townhouse/condo association restrict your right to display a ''For Sale''/''For Rent'' sign in your window? I do understand that on the common areas permission should be obtained first, but within your own house? I was unaware of any ''advertising restrictions.'' That's the wording in the by-laws, although I haven't found it in my by-laws book yet.

Re: Townhome/condo association rules

It really depends on what is in the By-Laws and condo decs. However, I would observe that even the more restrictive associations allow signs in the windows. Your association might be different. Obviously, you should consult with a knowledgable real estate attorney.
