Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

Collections on old ticet/warrant

I am goind to make a long story as brief as possible. September 1996 I got a traffice violation in Illinois. Got a lawyer went to court. Found guilty. Told to pay by this date or come back to to court. Joining ARmy before that date so paid fee with money order. They say I never paid, and didn't come to court. So now only are they sending me to collections but I now have a warrant out for failure to appear. Court Clerk told me even if I pay AGAIN that won't take care of warrant. I feel like arm is being twisted into paying twice. Don't have receipt for a traffic ticket almost 11 years after the fact. Grown adult now, have security clearance don't want to lose it. Want to be responisble, but feel I am damned if I do, damned if I don't. What are my rights? What should I do? Please help I now live in Alabama so things are different here than they are in IL. I dont wan't to have to go to Il to take care of this. Also dont want my credit ruined because of a clerical error on their part. Have had several background checks for security clearances, no warrants ever showed up so this all sounds fishy to me. Don't understand why they took 11 years to get a hold of me and are threatening to disrupt my life now. Please help.

Re: Collections on old ticet/warrant

You should contact an attorny in the county in which you received your ticket to advise you. If your ticket is from the Chicago area or surrounding counties, please feel free to contact me.

PS I am a former Army JAGC officer.
