Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My brother died June 9, 09. in Chicago. He had a bad heart and it was expected. The funeral home went to get death certificates and was told by Chicago they had to send it to Springfield, Il. I paid for this and still don't have a death certifcate. I have asked the funeral home and no response. It's been two months, I just want to finish this estate, there is no money involved in this .

In most circumstances, funeral homes should have a number of death certificates available to them immediately. If they cannot provide you with one for any reason, you can get one from the State. It normally takes at least 4-6 weeks for the State to process a formal death certificate. Since your brother passed over 2 months ago, Illinois should be able to provide you with one by now.
