Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

passing of father without a will

My dad passed in May was was not married but had a girlfriend whom he was living with. The girlfriend will not give myself or siblings anything of his and we don't have the money to really handle this in court. Any suggestions on what we can do. There is no will, she was the beneficary on his policies but we are looking for all of his personal belongins and his car. Any suggestions would be appreciated

If you can't get her to do the right thing on her own accord, then you'll need to open up an intestate probate estate, be appointed administrator and bring a citation action to get her in court to account to you for his property. If she doesn't voluntarily comply, going to court is really the only remedy.
