Legal Question in Consumer Law in India

is sms a legal way of communication

I have subscribed for one of the internet service with the mobile company. They just changed the rates and sent me an sms saying the plan is changed which I was not able to read on time. So, I would like to know, whether SMS is a legal way of communciation, and if yes than what is the duration that as sms should be sent before changing the service.

Further, I was not able to read because I was in the office and the mobile was at home when I received the sms.

I was preparing for the exam that is why I was not able to read the sms, because my focus was on exam.

They are exerting lot of pressure on me to make the payment for the service of which the rates were changed and I as a person didn't received the information.

Kindly help me by providing some guidance. I don't know what to do. The bill has very huge amount.

For any other information do write to me at [email protected]

Re: is sms a legal way of communication

Ideal advise I could give you is - contact a consumer organisation who may be able to help you. You may contact [email protected] (Bombay Tel User's Ass.) who may be able to help you, to locate a consumer organisation closer to you.

What your Service provider is trying to do is not a proper action.
