Competing with an old employer

I am 20 years old and worked for a multi-million dollar company as a an intern from June 2006 to August 2006. I decided to start my own company after I finished my internship. My business model is similar to the other firm's model and my company would actually be in strict competition with the other firm. The company I worked as an intern for had ''loose lips'' and I had access to nearly all documents and clientele information. Will I get slapped with a lawsuit if I start my business in the same city as the other company? I never signed a non-compete contract with the other company. I'm trying to decide if I should just start my business in another city or if I'd be fine competing with the other firm.

Based on the facts presented you should be fine as long as you do not use a name that is substantially similar to the one that the other company has and you are not using trade secrets.
