server/website hacked

I have an unsecured business loan with a past business partner, he is trying to force me into signing a contract to secure the loan. The contract terms are impossible for me to adhere to. He got upset that we have not reached a deal and hacked into the business's server and deleted the ecommerce website and all the company invoices,tax papers,client lists,etc... I have paid 2 individuals to trace the ip address of the person who deleted the info. Both have returned to me and shown it came from the same city that my x-partner lives in. It is a small town and very ironic that right after a phone disagreement the company's website gets destroyed. I am going to notify the police, but worried that they may not understand how much damage this has caused our business. What would you reccomend I do at this point?

Report this to the police and sue for damages, which may erase your debt to this person. I can't believe that your only copy of your website was on the hosting server; even your hosting company should have a copy on their backup tapes. So you didn't change the access information after this person stopped being a partner? Contact me if you want to go over how to avoid this and other security issues in the future.
