Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Indiana

Right of my employer to limit complaining

My company is planning to put a line in our employee hand book that tells us we are not allowed to complain about things at work, if we do, we may be reprimanded and possibly terminated. Is this a violation of our 1st admendment rights, or can they do this?

While it sounds like a very stupid idea, it doesn't violate the Constitution regarding freedom of speech. You still have the right to complain. Your employer (assuming there is not a union contract) has the right to put stupid things in the handbook. Indiana is an "at will" employment state. The employer could put in the handbook the following rule: "Any employee wearing green will be fired." Dumb rule, but they could do it.
