Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Indiana

Bankruptcy on credit report

I filed for bankruptcy in 04/04 I understand that it stays on the credit report for 10 years. I opened a credit card account about 6 months after discharge. In May 05 my credit card was cancelled because they stated I filed for bankruptcy again which was not true. I found out that my lawyer picked my name on the computer instead of the lady who was actually filing. My credit report states that I filed but it was dismissed because of the 7 year period. I have contacted my lawyer with no avail. I contacted the court with no avail. I have contacted the credit bureau and when they do there research they state it is valid because it is attached to my social security number and they refuse to take it off. It looks bad on my credit report it looks as if I filed had it discharged and then tried to file again a year later. Before this happened I was able to get credit now it is harder. What can I do.

Re: Bankruptcy on credit report

I am very confused by what you mean by "that my lawyer picked my name on the computer instead of the lady who was actually filing." I think you need to talk to your bankruptcy attorney.
