Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana
i was arrested on three A -misd charges,i spent 5 days in jail then bonded out,the day i bonded out i appeared in court for initial hearing, during the hearing i never received any paperwork about my charges, and was not offered a public defender,so they set another court date a month later, when that court date came i called and they continued it for a month later,so i showed up a month later still with no attorney and it was a bench trial,i had none of my witnesses and no lawyer,so i called a lawyer and he came to the court house he had 15 mins to get prepared for my case, because the judge denied a continuance,so i had to take a plea that i did not commit or as my lawyer said "doalot more time, is this legal i never seen statement or any paperwork of any kind, so i couldnt prepare for my defense anyway, can i do anything about this??? or am i screwed for waiting to long and not having the money for an attorney??
1 Answer from Attorneys
You may want to sit down with the lawyer you had represented you and go over all of this carefully. There are several irregularities in your story which should be looked into to determine what your next step should be but as in most cases consulting an attorney and reviewing the details of your matter is the first, next step.
