Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

I was convicted of a D felony for theft in 2007 in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am now enrolled in school and would like to pursue a health profession such as nursing or dental hygienist. Will my felony disqualify me from a career in such a profession? If so can a felony be reduced in the state of Indiana and again if so will that help?

Thank You so Much

Only the Indiana State Board of Nursing can give you a definitive answer. On the Indiana application for licensure by examination you will be asked if you have ever been convicted of, pled guilty or nolo contender to a violation of any federal, state or local law relating to the use, manufacturing, distribution or dispensing of controlled substances, alcohol or other drugs and also about any offense, whether misdemeanor or felony in any state, except for minor violations of traffic laws resulting in fines. Whether your felony can be reduced to a misdemeanor is a question for a lawyer who has reviewed your case and any criminal history. However even a misdemeanor will need to be reported to the Indiana State Board of Nursing when seeking your license.
