Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

If someone has multiple felonies, 1 C and 4 Ds pending, and they take the court to an actual trial, is it true that you can only be charged with the worst offense, i.e. the C Felony? And what about mercy pleas?

No, that is not true. If the D felony is a lesser included offense of a C felony, the defendant can only be sentenced to the Class C Felony. A "mercy plea" is just a plea of guilty with the hope that the court will treat you leniently due to your owning up to responsibility.
