Legal Question in Criminal Law in Indiana

theft class d felony

i was charged with a class d felony for theft. I was told by the detective that i would probably not get any jail time. i have a clean record never done anything like this before. I don't know what to expect or what to do. Do I need to get a lawyer? I really can not afford a lawyer...but I was told as long as I have a job I would not qualify for a free public defender. What do I do?

You definitely need an attorney. Reason is... you have a lot better chance of getting a better deal with an attorney. You may be able to get your charge reduced to an A Misdemeanor.
