Legal Question in Family Law in Indiana

my child is currently nine years and has, for the several months, expressed his desire to live with me. (his father). needless to say his mother want to hear nothing of this.... at what age is it appropriate for a child to be able to make his or her own decisions on this matter??

In Indiana, 18. The courts are supposed to give "more weight" to the wishes of a child 14 or older, but it is still up to the judge. Most would say 9 is too young an age to give the child any significant power over whether he needs to see a doctor, go to school, or pick where he lives.
