Family Leave Act and Vacation Time

I am pregnant and have notified my employer that after my pregnancy leave of 6 weeks, I will be taking an additional 6 weeks of time off from the Family Leave Act. I would like to know if my employer can require me to take my vacation days before I am allowed to use the Family Leave Act. I have 3 weeks vacation coming this year. Thank you.

Re: Family Leave Act and Vacation Time

You may be required to use your vaction contemporaneously with FMLA. Thus you will have three weeks paid and nine weeks unpaid. This is to prevent an employer having to suffer an absence of an employee in excess of the 12 weks under FMLA
