Legal Question in Employment Law in Indiana

reduction in work hours

My company is temporarily reducing my work hours. They have told us to not report to work for an entire week. As a salaried employee, do they have to pay us for this week of non-work? Can they reduce weekly work hours in the future and adjust our pay accordingly?

Re: reduction in work hours

In the absence of an enforceable employment contract, employers need not pay salaried employees for days, weeks, etc. not worked. On the other hand, you are entitled to a full day's pay for days that you work even partial hours. If you do not receive a full day's pay for partial hours worked, you can challenge any classification that you are an "exempt" employee, and pursue overtime pay for hours in excess of 40 in a week -- if any.
