Moving out on lease

I had just asked a question about the lease being taken over by a new landlord after our previous landlord sold the property. We did not want to stay at the property with the new landlord. We just moved out and the new landlord says he is not giving us our deposit back because we broke the lease. Is this correct? The new landlord didn't give us a new lease to sign and his name is nowhere on our lease. Should he have to give us our deposit back even though we moved?
