Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

land survey

When we purchased our home in 1980 we were shown where the stake was from the survey on the North side of us . Our fence was about 4 ft from it making it more then on our property. We replaced the fence in 1981 but left it in the same area. House on our N side sold May 2005 and we have been told by new owner that our fence is on her property, had a survey done at our expense and found that she is correct but have been told that since it's been there over 20 yrs we do not have to move it. We have moved, but nothing is making her happy. What exactly is the law. According to town ordinance we do not have to move it 1 ft in from our property line but she says we do. We live in Plainfield IN, Hendricks Co. They have threatened to sue.
