Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Indiana

Landlord sold house, we are tenents.

Our landlord recently sold the house we are in. We have not received a written notice to move, he just called us and told us it was being sold and we had to move. The people buying it said we had to be out by the 15th of Aug. They own the house as of Aug 1st. We need to know our rights as to how long we actually have. We are a low income family of 4.

This is a link go the Indiana Code concerning landlord-tenant relations. If you have had a month-month lease, then you are entitled to thirty-days' WRITTEN notice, from either the old landlord or the new one. The 30 days do not start to run until the notice is in writing and delivered to you. If you have a written lease agreement that provides for a longer term, more than month to month, then you can stay there until the end of the stated lease period. The new owner must honor the rental or lease agreements you have with the old owner. Good luck.
