Legal Question in Family Law in Iowa

I have 2 sons 19 & 17(18 in March). the oldest has not lived at home since he was 17, he also lived with me for 3 years when he was 13,14,15. I paid support on both even when he lived with me. The youngest also lived with me for 1 yr before that. Now my ex still wants me to continue to pay support on both kids and pay back support( only about 300). what options do I have to reduce my support or stop it altogether?

You are obliged to pay your arrearage but unless your oldest is going to college and your ex has filed a motion for post secondary education subsidy under Iowa Code section 598.21F and a court has ordered it, you are not obligated to pay support past their 18th birthday, or, if they are attending high school, their date of graduation. You can read it at: http://coolice.legis.state.ia.us/Cool-ICE/default.asp?category=billinfo&service=IowaCode&ga=83&input=598.21F

I suggest you contact a competent attorney to assess your rights and your responsibilities in this matter and the best of luck.
